When our supply can meet demand, we want to return to 100 percent Canadian-raised chicken for all menu items.
(Updated May 2, 2021): We continue to face challenges with our chicken supply as a result of the ongoing disruption caused by COVID-19.
To ensure a steady supply of McChicken sandwiches in our restaurants across Canada, we will temporarily procure McChicken bread from a Canadian contingency supplier. As a result, we are temporarily unable to achieve our global commitment to sourcing chicken for our McChicken sandwiches that have been reared without the use of antibiotics that are important in human medicine. Guests will not notice a difference in the taste, safety or quality of their favorite McChicken.
We monitor our supply closely and are developing preparations to ensure that our Canadian restaurants have access to chicken. Our supply chain has implemented our contingency plans as part of our routine operating procedures, and as a result, we will be temporarily starting to purchase Chicken McNuggets from a McDonald’s supplier in the United States.
As soon as manufacturing in London, the ON facility can safely resume and meet demand, we plan to return to full Canadian McNuggets supply.

Why is Angus no longer available at McDonald’s
Since modifying our beef supply, on average, Canadian beef accounted for 81 percent of the total beef used in the manufacture of all beef burger patties as of June 29, 2020.
Imported beef is a temporary solution due to current processing capacity limitations with our Canadian beef feedstock suppliers, including the temporary closure of a processing facility in Cargill High River, Alberta.
We work closely with Cargill and other McDonald’s suppliers around the world to meet our current beef demand and keep our restaurants open. We understand how much our customers depend on their local McDonald’s, and we are dedicated to doing everything we can to continue serving our community during this difficult time.
We’re temporarily removing the Angus burger from McDonald’s Canada menus nationwide, starting soon, as part of our menu simplification efforts. Restaurants can continue to sell products while supplies last.
