How Long Should I Bake My Ham?

Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. In a shallow roasting pan, place the ham on a rack. Allow 18 to 20 minutes per pound for a full 10 to 15 pound ham; 20 minutes per pound for half 57 pounds; or 35 minutes per pound for 34-pound calves or buttocks. Cook uncovered until the internal temperature reaches 160F under all circumstances. Remove the ham from the oven about 30 minutes before cooking and glaze as suggested below for an attractive, quick finish.
At 350 degrees, how long does it take to cook ham
How long does it take to bake ham? Spiral sliced ham should be heated to 140 degrees Fahrenheit in about 10-15 minutes per pound. We preheat the oven to 350 degrees and estimate that nearly 10 pounds of ham will take 1 1/2 to 2 hours to cook.
Is it better to roast ham at 325F or 350F
The ideal oven temperature for cooking ham is 325 degrees Fahrenheit. The USDA provides detailed advice on how long cooked ham should be cooked. This guide provides instructions on how to prepare it fresh, as well as a recommended temperature of 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
However, it is possible to cook ham at 350F. However, at higher temperatures, it takes a different amount of time.
How long should ham be cooked
- Remove the ham from the refrigerator and set aside for 30 minutes until it reaches room temperature.
- Select the glaze you want to use.
- For Apple-Maple Glaze, reduce apple cider to 1/2 cup in a saucepan over medium-high heat, 8 to 10 minutes. Reduce heat to low and add apple jelly, maple syrup, mustard, allspice, and nutmeg, stirring constantly.
- In a bowl, combine brown sugar, mustard, orange zest, and juice for Mustard-Orange Glaze.
- To make Hoisin-Spice Glaze, combine the following ingredients in a small bowl. In a small saucepan over medium heat, roast the five-spice powder for 1 minute in peanut oil. 1 cup water, hoisin sauce, honey, rice vinegar, and soy sauce 5 minutes after boiling, reduce to 1 1/2 cups.
- To make the Pineapple-Apricot Glaze, combine the following ingredients in a small bowl. In a saucepan, combine lime juice, ginger, and pineapple juice. Simmer for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the liquid has reduced to 1/2 cup. Once strained, combine lime zest, preserved apricots, and mustard in a mixing bowl.
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove excess skin from the ham. Score the fat in a diagonal crosshatch pattern with a sharp paring knife without cutting the meat. Place the cloves (if using) at the junction of the ham pieces (if using).
- In a roasting pan, place the ham flat-sided on a rack. Pour 1/4 inch of water into the bottom of the pan. Transfer to the oven and bake for 2 hours 30 minutes, or until a thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the ham registers 130F. (about 15 minutes per pound).
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Brush the half glaze over the ham to coat it. Add extra water if the water in the bottom of the pan has evaporated.
- Return the ham to the oven and continue baking for another 45 minutes, brushing every 10 minutes with the remaining glaze.
How long should ham be cooked and at what temperature
Cooking Time and Temperature: Half a ham weighing between 5 and 7 pounds should be roasted for 22 to 25 minutes at 325F per pound. Cook a bone-in ham weighing between 10 and 14 pounds for 18 to 20 minutes per pound at 325F.
Is it possible to cook my ham at 350 degrees
- Adjust the oven rack to fit the large roasting pan in the oven. A small roasting rack should be placed in the pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Remove the ham from its packaging and rinse with cold water. In a roasting pan, place on a rack. Bake for 1 hour 40 minutes, covered with foil. Meanwhile, in a saucepan, combine the brown sugar and honey and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture is well combined and the sugar dissolves.
- Pour the brown sugar glaze over the ham and continue baking for another hour and 40 minutes, brushing at least twice with the roasting drip. (For smaller or larger hams, adjust the overall roasting time to 20 minutes per pound.) Insert a meat thermometer into the area containing the meat (not in the fat or touching the bone) to check for doneness; it should read 160 degrees F.
- Allow 15 minutes for the liquid to settle before slicing the ham. (You can make ham up to 2 hours in advance and serve it at room temperature by wrapping it in foil.)
Can I cook ham at 375 degrees
- Bring the undercooked, fully cooked ham to room temperature (don’t use country ham). Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut the skin of the ham but leave the fat on the ham. Cut the fat in a crosshatch pattern with 3/4-inch deep slices 1-inch apart. In a roasting pan, place the ham flat-sided on a rack and add 1 cup water. Bake for 40 minutes on the lowest oven rack, adding extra water if the pan gets dry. Meanwhile, combine 1 cup marmalade or marmalade, 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1 cup dijon mustard, 2 tablespoons cider vinegar, and 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce in a bowl. Spread half the glaze over the ham, cover with foil, and bake for another 45 minutes. Brush with remaining glaze and bake for another 40 to 50 minutes, opening lid, until glaze is golden. Allow 15 minutes to rest before cutting.
- Don’t throw away the ham! For added flavor, add to boiling soup, beans, or boiled vegetables.
- Sprinkle any of the following mixtures into the glaze before the last 40 to 50 minutes of cooking to make your ham crunchy.
- 1 cup panko (Japanese breadcrumbs), 3 teaspoons chopped parsley and scallions, and grated 1 lemon
- 1 cup cornbread filling mixture, 2 tablespoons chopped thyme, 1 1/2 teaspoons cilantro, and 1/2 cup cornstarch, crumbled

How long does a 9 pound ham take to cook at 350 degrees
Raw, or fresh, ham should be fully cooked before serving. Fresh ham is sometimes smoked, but not preserved or salted, and the skin is usually left on. Score the skin in a diamond-shaped pattern before cooking, but be careful not to cut the flesh. Scoring allows fat to smear over the ham as it cooks, and if a glaze is used, it can seep into the meat through the cuts. Place the ham in a roasting pan and season with the following spices: Salt, pepper, garlic, and spices are always a good choice. Cover with foil and cook for 20 minutes per pound in 350F oven, or until internal temperature reaches 160F. Throughout the cooking process, grease. For the last 30 minutes, remove the foil. Glaze can be applied at this phase.
How long should a 12 pound cooked ham take to cook
Pre-Cooked Smoked Ham Reheat cooked ham in 325 degrees F oven until internal temperature reaches 140 degrees F. 10 pounds to 14 pounds 15 to 18 minutes per pound
Do you roast ham with a lid on it
- In a large grill, place the ham skins face up.
- 5 liters of water
- Place the lid over the grill, or if it’s not there, cover it tightly with foil. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Preheat oven to 500F and bake for only 10 minutes.
- Turn off the oven after 10 minutes and leave the ham in the oven for three hours. After three hours, reheat the oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes. Make sure you have no more than 25 minutes. Let the ham rest in the oven for 6 to 8 hours after turning it off.
- During the cooking procedure, do not open the oven door at any time. The internal temperature of the ham should be at least 155 degrees Fahrenheit when finished.
- Allow 15 minutes for the ham to rest to allow the juices to spread evenly throughout the meat. During this time, the interior temperature should reach 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
- While the ham is still warm, remove the skin and fat and slice as desired. Leave a 1/4-inch layer of fat on the ham if glazing. For more information, see Glass.
Cooking Bag for Oven:
When it comes to cooking ham, using an oven cook bag is a good choice. They help ensure more even cooking and reduce cooking time.
- 1 tablespoon flour, beaten in a 19″ x 23 1/2″ oven cooking bag. The flour will prevent the bag from bursting during the heating process.
- Place the ham in the oven bag, skin side up.
- In a large grill at least 2 inches deep, place the bag and ham.
- Fill the bag with 3 to 4 cups of water or other liquid. Fruit or grape juice, as well as fizzy drinks such as cola, can be used in the bag.
- A nylon tie is used to secure the bag.
- Cut the ends of the tied bag to about 1 inch above the tie after tying it securely. This will help keep the bag from touching the top or sides of the oven.
- Make six 1/2-inch slits in the top of the bag to allow steam to escape as the ham cooks. As the vapor in the bag builds up, this will help prevent the bag from exploding.
- Preheat the oven to 325F and roast the ham for 20 to 25 minutes per pound, or until an internal temperature of 155F is reached on a meat thermometer. Otherwise, the cooking bag may melt if it comes into contact with the walls or the top of the oven.
- Remove the ham from the oven and remove the bag and residue.
- Allow 15 minutes for the ham to rest, during which time the internal temperature will rise to 160 degrees Fahrenheit. While the ham is still warm, remove the skin and fat and slice as desired. Leave a 1/4-inch layer of fat on the ham if glazing. For more information, see Glass.
Revealed:
- Place the fat side of the ham on a rack in the grill; Half the ham should be set with the pieces facing down.
- Fill the grill with 2 inches of water. Instead of plain water, a mixture of water, brown sugar, and vinegar can be used, or a can of fizzy drink, such as cola, can be added to the water.
- Ham should not be closed. Place in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes (see Time and Temperature Chart below). Bake until the internal temperature reaches 155 degrees Fahrenheit. Allow 15 minutes for the ham to rest, during which time the internal temperature will rise to 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
- While the ham is still warm, remove the skin and fat and slice as desired. Leave a 1/4-inch layer of fat on the ham if glazing.
- For fully cooked wet ham, use the same steps as above.
- Wet (city) ham that has not been cooked or partially cooked will take longer to cook than fully cooked ham and should reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Bake until the internal temperature reaches 155 degrees Fahrenheit. Allow 15 minutes for the ham to rest before cutting. During this time, the temperature inside should reach 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
- If you are using glaze, do so within the last 30 minutes of cooking.
