How to Cook a Mini Pit Ham?
I have a nine and a half pound Pit Ham. I can’t seem to find a recipe that describes how to prepare it. What is Pit Ham, exactly? How long do you think it will take to cook? Thank you very much.
Internally, the ham pit had been cut to remove the bone and most of the fat, but the marble was left for flavour.
For example, Farmland Ham is fully cooked and can be served chilled. Follow the instructions below if you want to serve the ham heated and/or glazed:
Preheat oven to 325F. In a baking dish, place the ham and 1/2 cup water. Using aluminum foil, cover the plate. Preheat oven to 325F and bake for 20 to 30 minutes per pound until warm. Serve the ham immediately or layer it as follows: Remove the ham from the foil. On top of the ham, brush or spoon the selected glaze. Bake for 10 minutes at 325F, uncovered.
If your ham is not a Fully Cooked Pit Ham, heat it to an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit, which takes about 30 minutes per pound at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

This approach is appropriate for quarter hams, petite hams, and gourmet hams, but not for hams weighing more than 3 pounds. In a covered, microwave-safe dish, combine the ham and 1/4 cup water. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes per pound, or until cooked through. Give yourself a break for 5-10 minutes.

Where does pit ham come from
Ham is made from the hind legs of a pig. The only exception is picnic ham, which isn’t really ham at all. The forelegs are used to make this “ham”. If you cook the back cut right away, it tastes just like any other roast pork. Fresh ham can be purchased from a butcher, but most hams undergo a procedure of curing and roasting or smoking before being sold, which helps give them a distinct taste and texture.
