How to slow cook bacon in the oven?
- Lay a layer of bacon slices on a baking sheet or rack, making sure they don’t overlap. (Have you ever seen bacon on a baking sheet or rack?)
- Bake for 15-25 minutes, depending on the crispness and thickness of the bacon. The bacon doesn’t have to be turned halfway, but I found it toasted more evenly on both sides.
Cold Start Cooking Bacon
Did you forget to preheat the oven? no problem! Bacon bacon can also be started in a cold oven.
Place the pan in a cool oven and follow the prep instructions above. Preheat oven to 400F and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until desired crispness.
Slow Cooked Bacon
Some cooks prefer the low and slow method because the bacon is more tender. Preheat the oven to 350°F and cook the bacon for about 30 minutes.
How long does it take to cook bacon at 250 degrees

This is something I can’t do anymore.
After learning where most of the bacon I ate as a kid and young adult came from, I made a promise to myself to do better, both for the health of my family and the overall well-being of the farm animals I raised. Brighten up my dining table.
It takes some digging, but there are plenty of farmers raising pigs and other animals on the grasslands just the way they were raised!
These pigs have a better life, are handled in a more humane way, and don’t risk passing harmful drugs and unknown substances to my kids because they don’t get antibiotics or extra hormones.

I’ve moved to Texas since I first wrote this and it seems like everything is bigger in Texas! This includes bacon. As a result, my “thick cut bacon” turned out to be… thick! I still have the same shopping options as before, plus some new ones, such as a product that is only four pieces per box because of its thickness!
This got me thinking of a different way to bake bacon in the oven.
You can cook at 400 degrees if you want, but if the bacon is very thick, you may not get the finish you want.
If you have time, I encourage you to take the time and try cooking at 300 degrees longer and compare the results. I think you will be very happy.
I made a pan of oven bacon this morning as an example of how much time you might need to allow for the process.
It only took me a few minutes to line a baking sheet with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 300 degrees.
It took about 90 minutes for the bacon to get the crispness I wanted, and I honestly believe it could take another 10-15 minutes!
