Covering the ham in the glaze and grilling it in a roasting pan is a great way to keep it moist and delicious. Some people may suggest using a slow cooker, but spiral ham is not suitable for a slow cooker.
To get started, double check that your toaster oven is large enough. I have an Oster electric toaster oven with a capacity of 20 liters. It’s ideal for this. Any size roasting oven will suffice, as long as it’s big enough to hold the ham without touching the sides.
Then, at the bottom of the roasting pan, place the rack that came with the toaster oven. No need to add any liquid. If too much liquid is added, the ham will be boiled rather than roasted.
Remove the spiral-cut ham from the package and drain the remaining liquid. Spray the disposable pan with cooking spray afterwards. Place the ham in the bottom of the disposable pan, flat side down or “face edge” down. The flatter side of the ham is below in this photo, making the face visible.
Half of the glaze should be applied to the entire ham. Let the glaze soak in between the slices as you gently separate them. If you peel the strips too much, the spiral ham will lose its firm appearance.
Place the disposable pan on the roasting rack. Preheat oven to 250F and cook ham, covered, for 12-15 minutes per pound, or until internal temperature reaches 140-145F. A digital meat thermometer in the thickest part of the ham is a great way to check.
Pour in the remaining juice from the ham once it is completely warm. Then, using the remaining ham glaze, scrape off the outer layer. Return the ham to the grill, cover, and set aside for 20 minutes to rest.
Optional, but highly recommended: Bake until brown and crispy, like honey-roasted ham, in a disposable pan on the middle rack of a standard oven (make sure to support the bottom). Or, if you have a cooking torch, use it to carefully caramelize the edges of the ham.
In the grill, how long should I cook the ham
Here are simple step-by-step instructions for making my maple-coated ham:
- To start, fill the bottom of the electric grill with 2-4 cups of water. Fill the grill with enough water to cover the bottom to a depth of about 1/4 inch. Inside, put a roasting rack.
- Place several sheets of aluminum foil on a table or work surface, overlapping to prevent ham juice from leaking between the sheets. Heavy duty foil should be used. Sufficient foil should be used to completely cover the ham. If you are using standard tinfoil, you may need three sheets. 2 large large sheets of foil will suffice if you have one.
- Carefully remove the ham from its packaging. If any juice collects in the container, save it to pour back into the ham before baking.
- Place the ham on its side, cut face up, with the sliced side facing you. It’s very important that several layers of glaze slip between the ham slices for a more savory bite as you pour.
- Wrap the foil around the ham, leaving the top exposed. Place the ham on the roasting rack of the grill.
- After that, place the thermometer probe in the center of the ham. Make sure the probe is not in contact with the bone.
- If any liquid remains from the package, pour it over the ham. Wrap the ham snugly in the foil, but leave it loose enough to open later to pour over the glaze.
- Make sure the electric grill cover is firmly attached. Because the probe thermometer wire is small and flexible, you can still close the lid. Preheat oven to 275 degrees Fahrenheit. Set the thermometer to 140 degrees F to warn you when the ham is done.
- The ham will take 15-20 minutes per pound to heat once the oven reaches 275 degrees. It takes a little over 2 hours to cook an eight-pound ham.
- Time your ham to cook about half an hour before you plan to serve it. It’s okay to heat the ham for up to two hours, but it will dry out. Make sure it is well protected.
Is it better to roast ham at 325F or 350F

However, it is possible to cook ham at 350F. However, at higher temperatures, it will take a different amount of time.

- Let it rest.
